Everything Old is New Again

Everything old is new again - Twitter for RestaurantsWhenever you find yourself in a dry spell for sharing interesting tweets, articles on Facebook, blog posts or even YouTube videos, there’s help right at your fingertips.

Why not dig back into your archives to reflect upon and bring new relevance to? Not simply a copy/paste into a new post – and you don’t want to do that anyway as Google can sniff out what it calls “duplicate content” and kill your page rank. Rather expound upon a post and give the topic new life. Consider these ideas:

How to give new life to…

Events

If you hosted a tweet up, cooking class or tasting, or participated in a food show or festival, take a walk back through assorted posts and tweets and do a follow up.

  • Drum up interest for a repeat class or event
  • Ask your audience if they’d like to see more of those events
  • Follow up with vendors and customers who made that event memorable on Twitter, reminisce and say hello again

Video

Do you “favorite” videos by others on YouTube?

  • Whenever you come across great videos, add them to your YouTube Channel. Share them on Twitter and Facebook
  • Ask your audience to submit videos from recent events to your Facebook Fan page. Make sure you allow for that feature in your Facebook settings

Facebook and/or Blog posts

Could some of your old posts and stories be due for an update?

  • Recap an old post on a particular topic by referencing it along with some new found relevant links, asides, or current events that reminded you of the original story.
  • On Facebook you might link to a funny photo from your uploads and add a little intro about what reminded you of it – maybe you bumped into someone from a past event or read an article about the photo’s subject.

Tweets

Twitter is a no-brainer for sharing all of the above. having a handful of tweets in your social back pocket can fill in the gaps when you’re busy or can’t seem to find anything especially retweetable.

  • Use the “Favorite” icon during your Twitter travels to keep a quick link to interesting links. Dip into them and RT with a fresh intro
  • Use the scheduling feature on your Twitter dashboard (Hootsuite is great for this, and Tweetdeck just added that feature) to schedule RTs or original tweets and hellos (like a customer’s birthday, anniversary, etc). This is also great for spreading out a pile of sharables you think your audience will enjoy, without inundating them all at once.
