That giant tweet outside
I don’t know about you, but I’ve noticed (and am thrilled!) more and more restaurants and food & bev purveyors getting on board with social networking sites. Of course for me, its the first thing I want to know about when I stumble upon a great new spot: Are you on Twitter? Especially if they have a remarkable lunch, happy hour or wine tasting.
Maybe I’m obsessed with wanting to know who has what soup on what day, or when those baguettes are coming out of the oven. Yes, I plan my day around such vital information.
What’s for lunch?
What is becoming the norm are mid-morning tweets pertaining to that day’s lunch offerings. Potential customers (followers or not) come to rely on these tweets to determine where they are going grab lunch that day. These tweets are fairly typical, and make the most of the 140 character allotment Twitter allows. Soup of the day, special sandwich, entree, coffee drink, etc.
Thinking about how these tweets can be expanded upon, or be more interesting, it occurred to that most of these joints already have a giant tweet sitting outside on the sidewalk or hanging on the wall by the kitchen – the CHALKBOARD.
What if a good pic was taken of that painstakingly-written board daily, and uploaded to tweetphoto or twitpic (or whatever your favorite app is)? Wah-lah! Two birds with one stone! Some chalkboards I’ve seen are really quite elaborate and beautiful. Why not take the time spent to recreate them every day and display that production via Twitter?
A pic of a sandwich board out front not only reads the specials for that day, it serves as a homing device for patrons making their way to your door. They’ve already seen it and they already know what it promises.
Sharpen your chalk sticks!
