Embracing your competition
A recent article by Lisa Barone [@lisabarone] on SmallBizTrends.com ponders the thought that buddying up with your competition thought social media is a smart move. Why? Besides using the same mediums to reach customers (Twitter, Facebook, etc) like-businesses can team up for referrals, organize joint charity fund-raising events, and feed off of each other for industry trends and news. Cozying up to your competition might also reveal some interesting tidbits of info about their own marketing plans and obstacles.
Not only might you discover their strengths and weaknesses, there’s opportunity to home in on a niche market or demographic you may not have considered before. Is your competition seeing more families than it wants to cater to? What about the need for a more romantic venue? How about offering a service no one around you is, like valet parking or delivery?
Put social media to work for you by connecting with your competition as well as your customers.
